"Perfect" in cocktail terms means half sweet vermouth and half dry. Some drinks benefit more than others with this ratio. A Rob Roy is one of them.
Traditionally a Rob Roy is very much like a Manhattan, but it uses Scotch whisky specifically. You can use a blended Scotch for more of a smokey taste, or a single malt to mild that down a bit. A Rob Roy also has bitters in it and often is garnished with a maraschino cherry. I have nothing against maraschino cherries or bitters (yum), but I like to keep it simple.
I use a vegetable peeler to peel the lemon strip if you aren't handy with a paring knife. Don't get too much pith!
The twist usually un-twists over time. A cocktail pick holds it together for nice presentation.
