Trinidad Sour

The Trinidad Sour is the reason I made orgeat. Get this, it has one OUNCE of bitters. One whole ounce. That sounds so terrible I had to try it. Plus my cocktail-reputable friends love it. Recipe I used is in the above link! Seat belts everyone!

I like Dickel Rye and the price is right so I used that. Any rye should do though. The orgeat is lurking behind the bitters.

If you can, it's easier to just pop the top off your bottle of bitters. Shaking out an ounce splash by splash sounds mighty tedious to me. I ended up leaving the top off mine after tasting this cocktail. (That means it's good haha)

Orgeat mixed with the bitters left behind in the cup. Bitters is such a cool color. It reminds me of the red dirt and stone I've seen in my region of the country.

Lightly shake everything together in a cocktail shaker.

Strain into a coupe or martini glass. Oh and in case you were wondering, bitters is 44.7% alcohol by volume. That is roughly 90 proof. So even though you are only adding 1/2 ounce of rye, this is by no means low alcohol. It has a very complex taste and almost reminds me of cinnamon or one of those pumpkin pie spices, while also being rich from the orgeat and sharp from the lemon. If you take the first sip and don't like it I strongly encourage you to give it a couple more sips. There is a lot to work our flavor wise.
