There seem to be a lot of ways to make a Hot Toddy. I think the older a drink is, the more amorphous it becomes. I’ve had somewhat similar experiences with the Old Fashioned. There are a few rules for the Hot Toddy that can’t be broken. Hot (obvs) and whiskey. Those are the only things we all seem to agree on! I like this version with hot water, honey, spices and lemon.
While I am a fan of nutmeg, there isn’t a good way to disperse it in this drink. It tends to sink to the bottom and not do much. For that reason I listed it as optional. The cloves and cinnamon are plenty to contend with spice-wise.
HOT TODDY | ||
2 oz Bourbon | ||
1 lemon slice | ||
4 cloves | ||
1 tsp Honey | ||
1 Cinnamon stick | ||
3-5oz hot water to fill | ||
A pinch of ground nutmeg (optional) |
While the water is boiling assemble your ingredients.
To make the clove lemon slice I used four cloves. I had to make a toothpick hole in the lemon skin before adding the clove.
1 teaspoon of honey, or more if you prefer.
Pour the hot water and bourbon into your glass, add cinnamon stick and lemon slice.
Add a pinch of nutmeg if you’d like.
Hot booze takes a little getting used to if you haven’t had it before. But boy, will it warm you up quick!
