Hand & Foot Trio | Chill Pill

Part 2! Since I have never been able to make a bath bomb stay together, I love bath melts. They are super easy to make and add a lot of smoothing oils to bath water. I've realized that I can't assume people will take baths. Showers yes, but baths aren't popular with everyone. I wanted to make a foot specific bath product that could be used for a nice soak at the end of an on-your-feet day. Just thinking it's more likely for a non-bath enthusiast to be more into a foot only bath. I soak my feet as part of my home pedicure!
I was thinking a "tablet" style bath melt would be fun and what better for a foot than cooling eucalyptus and peppermint oil! HEY. What if I called it a chill pill?! I can't be the first to think of this, but I was still pleased with my cleverness. I used my usual formulation, found here.

I haven't ever colored bath melts before because the only oil soluble colorants would leave a residue and possibly stain the skin. I didn't think water soluble colorants would work since this is a totally oil based anhydrous product. Nothing for the colorant to solubilize into. I have a sample bag of both yellow and blue bath bomb colorant from Wholesale Supplies Plus so I thought I would give it a try and worst thing, I keep the ugly ones and make new white ones to give.

I melted down the oils.

Once the oils were liquid I added just the smallest amount of blue colorant (like almost none) and used my mini mixer to combine. Looks pretty good right!

It didn't sink out and seemed to be pretty incorporated so I added some yellow. I added more yellow than blue to attempt a green.

Holy shnikies! Wow is that a rich dark green! It's foaming from mixing, but you can see on the edges how saturated it is! I'm very impressed with this colorant. Still no sinking or separating.

I proceeded to add my weighed and combined dry ingredients. I figured this would dilute the colorant to a lighter green.

Um hardly? Haha this stayed really rich!

I made enough for two tablets, but always end up with a little too much or a little too little. Better to have a spoonful too much. Especially when using something new, I can try it out first before giving these away!

After fully cooling they were still a totally awesome rich and dispersed green. Did I say I was impressed with this colorant, because I very very much am. A water soluble colorant that can disperse in oils to create an even and saturated color like this? Wow. Oh and spoiler, it's totally still water soluble and didn't leave a stain or even a hint of color behind in the container I tested it in. Your bathtubs are safe!

If you happened to read my "Some Bar Basics" post you might recognize this guy. This is a channel knife. While shamed in the bar field, it excels in the 'carving soft objects' field.

One swipe of the channel knife down the center of each tablet.

Curse that air bubble. Oh well, still looks very much like a grooved medicine tablet!

I decided to package them in a plastic bag with an RX style label. I threw some fun fonts in and didn't keep it too clinical, but I think the joke is clear.

Two Chill Pills, packaged and ready to go. I'm very pleased at how these turned out and really want to experiment with these colorants more!
