Preservatives.

Use them.

This is a shampoo bar that was sealed in a damp jar since August 2013. I forgot about it (as people are like to do) and found it the other day while purging my travel bottles before a trip. This was preserved with Phenonip -a strong one- at .5%. Yet it still grew mold. While this is very pretty mold, it IS still mold. Protect yourself, protect your customers/friends/family/pets. USE PRESERVATIVES. I'd hate to see what this would look like if it hadn't had anything in it. *shudder*
For people who sell, I dearly hope you've done 'tests' like this. People can be forgetful dummies, I hope you are putting your products through the dummy-ringer. The fact that you can preserve something and it can still mold is a major reason I don't sell and only give hydrous products to a very very small group of friends. I would hate to hurt someone with a lotion, and until it's tested in a lab, I can't be sure it won't mold or grow things. Even WITH preservative.
Scared? Yeah... me too.
