Lemon Drop & Bullfrog

The lemon drop. This used to be a cringe-worthy drink to me. In bars the lemon drop is typically vodka and sour mix, gagaliciously sweet and masquerading as a 'martini' simply because of the glass it's served in. That seems like a lot of animosity to have towards a little drink!
I'm happy to say that I've changed my tune towards the lemon drop. The lemon drops in bars are still yucky, but you can make this at home (and get drunk because they are strong and mega tasty). I got this recipe from The Ultimate Bar Book: The Comprehensive Guide to Over 1,000 Cocktails. I LOVE THIS BOOK. If you are interesting in making cocktails this is a great book. The binding on mine is already getting worn from use and I've only owned it a couple months. I mean come on, if it made the lemon drop hater like them?!

I sugared this rim just for you! But you might notice I didn't do the whole thing so I could still drink this without getting the sugar... hehehe. But my is it sparkly and pretty.

I garnished with an orange peel for contrast.

But, but, what the heck is a Bullfrog? Just you wait. JUST YOU WAIT!!

Instead of a martini glass, start with a rocks glass of 8+oz.

Strain your lemon drop over the ice.

Top with a soda water of your choice and squeeze in a lemon slice. You can then use it for a garnish if you please.

The reason this drink is awesome is that it's a little more laid back and a little more refreshing. It's just the same delicious lemon drop but with a sparkling twist that just makes me do the "ahhhhh" sound after sipping. The other super cool thing about the Bullfrog is that you can make a ton of them, bottle it, stick it in the freezer and pour away all night without mixing every drink. Which is great if you are having a party. Which also means you can bring a bottle pre-mixed TO a party! Thanksgiving anyone?! I'm going to try it. Happy Holidays, see you next week on the Christmas side!
