Rose Water Facial Mist

We’ve all been told water dries your skin out. It’s true, but with conditions. Your skin needs water. It needs water from the inside and on the outside. But if you don’t trap that water on the outside it will evaporate, wah wah- dry skin. That is what lotion does best. It doesn’t so much put moisture into your skin, as keep it from evaporating (unless of course it as a humectant like glycerin that will draw water to your skin from the air). This is why body oil doesn’t work unless you trap some water under it. This is why lotion after a shower works so much better! Why staying hydrated from the inside is so much better! And why humectants are king of the skin world. So, let’s trap some fancy dolled up water against our faces.

BASIC ORDER OF OPERATIONS

At Night: toner=> serum => facial mist => night cream
In the Morning: => light day lotion => facial mist => facial oil

I remember the first time I smelled Caudalie Beauty Elixir in a Sephora. Had. To. Have. I wasn’t even sure what I was going to use it for, it just smelled and felt so refreshing. I have been using some kind of facial spray ever since.
I no longer purchase the Beauty Elixir. I do love it, it’s just very expensive. I’m trying to pare down and make some of the luxe products for myself. Unlike the facial oil I shared, this one won’t break the bank with supplies. It can be very simple and still feel and work very well.
The only non-negotiable specialty ingredient is a preservative. You must use it. Even if your rose water has a preservative in it, that is only to preserve itself- any additional ingredients you add will overwhelm that preservative and its usefulness. If you choose to use only rose water and nothing else, then can you omit the preservative. And no, keeping it in your fridge won’t solve the problem, I’m sure you’ve seen things go bad in there and know it isn’t foolproof.
Links to where I purchased each ingredient are in the table. I got my glycerin at Whole Foods. Similar health food stores carry it in the beauty aisle, or you can buy it online!

ROSE WATER FACIAL MIST

50% Rose water
45% Distilled water
2% Glycerin
2.5% Willow bark extract
.5% Allantoin
Preservative

My favorite preservative. A little goes a long way.

Our goodies. You don't have to use Allantoin or Willow Bark extract, but I suggest you don't skip the glycerin. For the perks of these ingredients, click on their links. If you skip an ingredient, add more distilled water in its place.

Always use distilled water in soap, lotion and body formulations!

We are going to heat our water to disperse the allantoin. A trick for heating water is to weigh your container first. Then if any water evaporates off, you can replace it. I weigh my container and add that amount to how many grams of water I should have.

I microwave my water for about 1 minute. Before you measure in your allantoin weigh your whole container and top off with more distilled water if needed. Weigh out your allantoin and add to hot water, stir till it desolves.

Weigh out and add the rest of your ingredients!

Your final solution will be clear. If you’d like a little color I suggest some water soluble cosmetic colorant, like this bath bomb powder from Wholesale Supplies Plus.

You won’t need much. I dip the end of a toothpick in the colorant and that is plenty. If you haven’t used this powder you should experiment a little before adding it to your final formulation. Or even color the distilled water first thing!

A nice rosy hue. There is no reason to add color besides aesthetics and personal preference.

I use 2-3 sprays per application, so this small 2oz bottle lasts a long time.
