This recipe was found here, at She Wears Many Hats. Ok, not sure what caramel was used in the original but it must have been softer than what I used. I did it differently than the recipe and drizzled the caramel over the cookies instead of putting pieces in.These were good, but so sticky and hard to eat. It was like a hard gluey web over the cookies that got stuck behind your front teeth. Not cool. I like the cookie base and would try it again with some dark chocolate chips or nuts. I won't be playing with caramel for a while.
The dark cocoa powder is so black!
And makes a really beautiful contrast with the white of the flour.
The batter was very yummy.
I mistakenly salted the cookies before they were baked, it wasn't as pretty but the effect was the same!
The offending caramels.
I burned the first batch I was melting.
Heat caramel in 15-30 second increments, stirring in between. If you burn the caramel, chip what you can out with a fork. Then put in some dish soap and fill the container with boiling water. Carefully use a long handled brush to disturb the caramel without touching the hot water.
Drizzled! Pretty but just too hard to eat. I'm glad I made a half batch. Cookie recipes, like soup, seem to be sized for an army.
I think these would be good stuck in some vanilla ice cream!
