Bathroom | The Plan

When we decided to re do the bathroom, I Googled “small bathroom” on the internet for design ideas. This is how I discovered most everyone seems to think 40 sq feet is a tiny-ass powder room. I guess people aren’t talking about or designing city-small type bathrooms. I understand why, there is not much to it! Our bathroom is just wide enough to fit a full size tub and just long enough to fit a toilet and small sink. THAT’S ALL FOLKS.
Since our bathroom is so small I wanted to keep it simple. Not too modern, not too 1942*. A mix of classics and modern: black, white, brushed nickel. Storage is paramount in a bathroom this small shared by two adults. We decided on a recessed mount medicine cabinet, two shower niches, a wall niche and wall shelves to corral our stuff.

Vanity Light | Faucet | Sink | Shower Tile | Floor Tile | Shelves | Art | Shower Hooks | Towel Bar

I wanted something fun and modern for the vanity light. This is affordable and adorable. I found some 60 watt small round bulbs to put in it so it should give a decent amount of light. We are also installing a can light over the shower. There is no window in the bathroom, only a solar tube, so lighting options are pretty important.

I know a retro faucet would fit this sink better, but for ease of use a one handle faucet really suits us better. One with a lot of height too!

It was really hard to find a sink that would fit this space. We were thinking of using the current one just raising it up, but it got a chip in it. This sink is pretty vintage looking but I really like it and it fits in with the age of the house.

The shower tile will not extend out onto the bathroom walls. I have seen people do this well, but I personally prefer tile inside the shower area more than outside. Plus that is what we have now and those tiles aren’t going anywhere without the wall still attached. The shower tile will go up to the ceiling thought! Hopefully that will help make things look taller.

The floor will be all black hex tiles with dark grout. I don’t like the like dark tile with light grout. Plus white grout on a floor is insanity. These are a nice satin finish and bridge the modern/classic gap.

So we aren’t actually buying these shelves, but a friend made us some that look just like them. Simple and they don’t draw the eye too much. All the stuff on them will accomplish that!

Everyone should put art they are obsessed with in their bathrooms. It’s the one place you are sure to go everyday. This lips print is bold and bright and adds some pop to a very neutral space.

We have s shower caddy now holding our washcloths and bath poufs. It feels very college. The niches will hold all our shower stuff and these hooks will replace the caddy.

Simple towel bar, matches the hooks. Not much to say about this one!

* That is when our house was built!
